Hillary Clinton and Public Sphere

On Thursday Hillary Clinton gave a speech at an event on empowering women and girls at New York University. From her personal experiences and knowledge, Hillary any public job is not an easy task, being under full scrutiny will weigh on an individuals self-image, public image and self esteem. Hillary Clinton addresses how to deal with the criticism of the public. She quotes Eleanor Roosevelt, “who said that women in politics or in public roles should grow skin like a rhinoceros. I think there’s some truth to that", because it is difficult being scrutinized for everything you do.

This article relates to multiple topics discussed in class, the public sphere stands out the most to me. "Today, newspaper, magazines, radio and television are the media of the public sphere", as stated in Jurgen Habermas article. This is interesting concept, whatever the media outlets report is what the audiences will listen to and hear. The public scrutiny public figures feel is intensified by multiple media outlets reporting on the same thing in different words.
